General Surgery

Overview

The Department of General Surgery has been providing its professional services since 1987.
 
▪ The department’s surgical outcomes are consistently of a high standard. While its main focus is always on providing safe & high-quality care to its patients, the department is also active in the fields of research, training and teaching. It is intimately linked to the Shaheed Zulfiqar Bhutto Medical University and teaches medical students of the Federal Medical and Dental College. The department is also a training center for surgeons-in-training within the College of Physician and Surgeon Pakistan.
▪ Specialist advice is provided in the areas of Minimal Invasive And Laparoscopic Surgery, Vascular surgery, Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic surgery, Breast Surgery,Bariatric Surgery, Upper Gastrointestinal and colorectal surgery, Thoracic surgery, Stoma care clinic, diabetic foot clinic
▪OPD, Emergency and OT days are divided amongst the four units equally divided.
▪In door facilities are available at Surgical Ward 5 and 6 with a sum total of 80 beds which are extended with the addition of extra beds, HDU, MW2, and Private Ward especially to accommodate the load from On-Call days

Training & Workshops

Training :
The Department takes pride in providing excellent postgraduate training to the students of M.S, FCPS General Surgery & Allied and FCPS of other disciplines rotated in the department. At present 30 FCPS SURGERY postgraduates are under training. Since 1990 the department has produced around 170 FCPS & MS in General Surgery and more than 20 MRCS UK, who continue to offer their sound services both overseas and to the homeland itself. In addition, we also train subspecialists for the first 18 months before they pursue CARDIAC SURGERY, NEURO SURGERY, THORACIC SURGERY, PLASTIC SURGERY, ORTHOPEDIC SURGERY and other specialties.
The Department is the Center for FCPS-II Examination. Over 80 dissertations/ theses on different topics of Surgery are written in the Department.
