

The department of urology has the honor for being the pioneer in different surgical procedures in Pakistan. The first successful percutaneous nephrolothotomy (PCNL) was performed in 1989 at PIMS. The urology department is also one of the pioneer in starting renal transplantation in the Federal capital and video assisted endoscopic procedures etc in Pakistan.
The urology department (PIMS) has the privilege to start a special clinic every Friday that deals in male sexual dysfunction & infertility. It is in fact the first clinic in the government organizations and has proved efficiently in eliminating the quackery, which prevails in the sensitive issues of infertility and sexual dysfunction.
The urology department PIMS is the first department in Pakistan, which was recognized by College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan CPSP in 1989 for the postgraduate training in field of urology. It is in fact the honor to state that the department has produced maximum number of FCPS urology in Pakistan.
The success rate of the residents trained from urology department PIMS is almost 100% for last 4 years.
The faculty members and postgraduate residents of the urology department take active participation in research activities and presentations. Countless number of original research work has already been published in reputed medical journals.
The faculty and the postgraduate residents of the department had made maximum number of nine presentations in International urology conference, which was held at Karachi in February 2003.
Taking in consideration the research activities of the department, Pakistan medical research council PMRC has appointed Professor Khursheed Anwar as convenor for nephrourological research & disease and member of the technical advisory committee.
FUTURE PLANS
CENTER OF EXCELLENCE FOR UROLOGICAL DISEASES
The department of urology is looking forward for the government to establish a CENTER OF EXCELLENCE FOR UROLOGICAL DISEASES.
This center has already been approved in PC one report of federal ministry of health.
This center will improve the existing facilities of health care for the patients with urological illnesses and will bring new dimensions in the growing fields of percutaneous, laprpscopic and reconstructive urology.
