The Department of Oncology is host to the WHO National Cancer Control Project, Pakistan and plays a leading role in planning the fight against cancer. So far a Hospital based tumour registry has been developed along with software analysis programme, as well as screening guidelines have been finalized for ca breast, cervix, prostate and colon and are ready for publication.

Pilot projects for screening for ca breast and cervix have been started in collaboration with the Departments of General Medicine, General Surgery, and MCH.

A training programme has been initiated since the last one year to train staff nurses in managing oncology patients, acute oncological emergencies, and administering chemotherapy. This is an informal programme lasting from 6 months to one year.
