The Deptt of Gynae/Obst PIMS is located in MCH Center, PIMS. This is a purpose built Gynae/Obst Hospital gifted to the Govt of Pakistan by the People of Japan (JICA) in 1999.It is a 125 bedded unit comprising of an indoor facility as well as a separate out patients department and a floor dedicated to Training of personnel namely MCH Training Center.

This department was started in 1987,as a gynaecology unit and headed by Prof Zubaida Dossal.

Collaboration with JICA as a 5-year project was initiated in 1997 with the primary goals of Safe Motherhood and reduction of maternal mortality. During the construction phase of the MCH Center PIMS, several baseline surveys on women health, health facilities & health practices were conducted in Islamabad, Attock & Nowshera districts by JICA & Obst/Gynae team of PIMS.

In 1999 the Deptt of Obst/Gynae was shifted from Islamabad Hospital premises of Medical ward 5 to the new purpose built MCH Center PIMS.In 2001,two units were created to further improve the functioning of the center. Prof. Ghazala Mahmud (FRCOG) heads unit-I while the Unit-II is headed by Prof. Syeda Batool Mazhar (MRCOG).

Prof. Ghazal Mahmud has been awarded Mohtrama Jinnah Gold Medal in recognition of health services rendered for women health in August-2005.
Prof. Syeda Batool Mazhar has been awarded degree of FRCOG in year 2005.
Gold Medal Awarded to Unit-II on poster presentation in PIMS Symposium 2005.
Gold Medal Awarded to Dr. Ayesha Saleem for best presenter in PIMS Symposium 2005.
