Outpatient Department of ENT and head and neck
surgery started working in March 1986.Operation
theatres and wards became functional in 1988.
The first post graduate trainees batch was inducted
in 1988 under the umbrella of Quaid-I- Azam
post graduate medical college In 1992 first
candidate to take the FCPS exam was successful
in obtaining the fellowship of College of Physicians
and Surgeons. Between 1992 to date thirty one
candidates have obtained their fellowship from
the College.
A joint Cancer Clinic has been set up with NORI since 1988 on every Friday. All cancer patients are discussed with the Radiotherapist and a treatment strategy is planned.
The department hosts a three monthly regional meeting in which all ENT departments in Rawalpindi Islamabad area are invited to present scientific papers. The scientific session is followed by dinner.
There are five formal teaching sessions

Dept. has a regional meeting since 1992 where all ENT departments of Islamabad and Rawalpindi gather and discuss the recent advances in ENT.

Islamabad was recently uplifted by untiredy efforts of
the Head of Department Professor Anjum Khawar. A
one-day workshop was organized on Endoscopic Sinus
Surgery. Col. Maqbool, the Head of Department of CMH
Muzaffarabad was invited as facilitator.

Islamabad is one of the best department across the
country being headed by Professor Anjum Khawar. The
Department was recently upgraded with addition of
LASER and Endoscopic Sinus Surgery in Operation
Theatre. Professor Anjum Khawar along with her faculty
members is showing keen interest in structured
training of the young doctors. Trainees are evaluated
by MCQs and TOACS as per CPSP Protocol organized after
every three months. The last assessment was done on
3rd January 2011 shown in these pictures.
The Department has very busy
teaching schedule with immense healthy academic
environment in addition to the best indoor and outdoor
patient care. There are fifteen post-graduate
residents currently working in the department. Three
doctors passed FCPS and four passed MCPS examination
during past two years. Six residents recently
completed their training and they all are appearing in
their professional examinations which is due in March
this year.
